ID brown wires under seat

Had an issue with my driver's side seat so I partially removed it. When I did this, there were 3-very small diameter brown wires that were severed. However, all 3 wires are brown and exactly the same. Don't know exactly what they are for but noticed that my airbag light is now on. I tried twisting each one to the other end but no luck. Any help would be appreciated. '99 Boxster, manual seats.

A brown wire on any German car or motorcycle is a ground. (earth) It's the Bosch standard.

after wires are reattached to ground, will require computer to reset the airbag light

As said, just re-attach them with some electricians tape but make sure they won't come apart easily. You don't want an airbag going off accidentally!

Does it make any difference which wires are spliced together since they are all brown?

I can take a picture of the original configuration but all you need to do is clean well, and solder them all together with electrinics solder, and clean your tip first.

Guys I have a 1998 Boxster with the airbag light on. I am in the process of repairing this and am somewhat confused and looking for someone who has been through this to chime in please!!!

So 1998 Boxster 8900 miles. I ordered the repair kit which consisted of the correct seat belts ending in 09 and 10. Should be good there. My problem is the TSB was released in I believe 1997 and then in 1999 and someone made mention that is was revised again all with contradicting information.

I am not sure if the 1998 boxster should use the information in the 1999 TSB which varies from the 1997 version. Besides the seat belts my kit included I have a bunch of the brown wires and 2 thicker ones with the grounding lugs (and none of these wires have gold connectors).

One of the TSBS mentioned splicing the new wires into I believe connector 7 and 8 on W16 and W17 and no mention of the ground wires I received (thicker with the eyelets installed). (By the way the ground wires on My car are very large. Larger then the ones with the eyelet I got with the kit. Maybe this is not the wire I am supposed to replace. When this fix is complete are there supposed to be more than one wire going to the ground lug?

The newer TSB mentioned you where supposed to take connectors 7 and 8 I believe and send them straight to the airbag ground lug??? When this fix is complete are there supposed to be more than one wire going to the ground lug?

Can someone confirm if the lead wires in the kit they have are gold or not?

Revision in 2002 here.

My car was in 4 times, twice for seat buckles, once for the TSB and the last time the tech mentioned the regional guy had him do something differently. Not sure if that was true or the TSB wasn't done right the first time and the tech was covering.

So I have to ask. The link you sent me describes a process involving four wires on X16 and two wires on X17. Below the actual TSB only mentions running two wires from X16 and X17 to ground. Not to mention it does not even specify which wire only saying brown wire.

Still looking for some more advice on this. Did anyone ever see these wires with gold plated ends?
