Sound System Questions

Info:
2001 Porsche Boxster
Becker CDR-220 Radio
6 Channel Amplified M490
Dash has the cupholder above the stereo

Problem:
The dang volume control does not work .... it sticks to one volume unless i spin the knob a bunch and it may or may not change and to what volume I never know so I'm thinking I better replace this thing.

Questions:
What does it take to install a double din radio/dvd/gps unit? Obviously the cupholder has to go. I think there are some tabs and a small plastic crossbar between the radio and the cupholder that have to go as well. The opening is about 4 1/2" tall and a double din is 4" so I will have to fill the space. Is there anything else I am missing?
I want to install rear speakers. Any thoughts on the PNP kit vs. the OEM kit?
What is this security code thing if I just decide to replace this thing with another CDR-220 that I buy on e-bay?

You'll most likely have to fabricate a trim piece as the two "Porsche space" opening is not exactly double-DIN.

If you replace the stereo you'll need the anti-theft code in order to activate it.

I don't personally have either kit. I'm sure others on this board can help you out there. Depending on how serious you are you may want to try for an empty speaker box or go for the cheapest option as you may want to replace the speakers anyways.

Good luck..
