Exhaust muffler

Hi

I found out that the Rear Exhaust muffler on my 1997 2.5 986 is going to split soon
it is rusty " rotten " around the edge.

I found a new muffler from a 2.5 986 from 2000.

Looking on available mufflers on the Internet it is always mentioned model 1996-1999.

Do anyone know if there is a difference between the 1997 muffler and the 2000 muffler,
or will it be a strait bolt on?

Garage
You will also need the 2000 & newer improved mounting bracket.

Hi Again.

Picked up the used muffler today at a bargain 30 GBP
It actually turned out to be a 99 model, meaning that it is identical to mine.

being that cheap I will try to modify the " sound" of it. that means welding stainless by pass pipes on it connecting the inlet to the muffler to the exhaust tip.

Using a magnet it looks like the muffler is made from "normal iron" while the exhaust tip is made from Steinless steel.
Is this correct?
it definitely makes the welding easier as I already have a mig welder with co2 .

I am pretty sure the whole muffler is Stainless Steel. With a little work they polish up well.
Don't think I've ever seen a muffler made of Iron
