fuel gage stuck on last reading

I heard you aren't suppose to leave the key in the ignition (tuned off) while refueling. The gage will always be stuck at last reading. Well it happened to me. Is there a trick to reset the gage?

I have never heard this nor experienced this.

With that being said, it is common for the fuel level sender to get stuck. Mine did this and then later became unstuck after a day driving hard at the track.

Anyone else?

Not sure if this is a coincidence, a friend of a friend has a Audi, similar situation. He disconnected / reconnected the battery, I tried it and gage is working (hell, I'll try anything). He also heard of a BMW doing the same thing. One German mfg of sending units?

Thanks for the reply.
