fuel gagge stuck on last reading

I heard you aren't suppose to leave the key in the ignition (tuned off) while refueling. The gage will always be stuck at last reading. Well it happened to me. Is there a trick to reset the gage?

Never heard that one, but maybe drive it down to 3/4 tank (by mileage) then refill with no key, and see if the gauge finds full again? If no, it's easy to pull the float.
