My rear passenger's side can't get more than 0 degrees of camber, HElP!
Hello everyone. I just bought a 2002 Boxster and after going to the alignment shop the range on the rear passengers side is .4 to 0 degrees. That's all. The front was fine -.6 and zero toe both sides. The rear drivers was at -1.8.
Has this happened to anyone else? I noticed the passengers side 2ft long aluminum long brace that attaches by 4 nuts and a bolt had to be installed under pressure when I changed the tranny oil. The car only has 38k miles. |
My rear tires are "as close to 0 as they can get them" and was told that's life. I don't know how much I'd have to replace to get that perfect but these alignment guys said don't worry about it.

Negative camber will give you better cornering, but the tires will wear unevenly
Both sides should be the same or it could handle oddly When I had mine done, They had me sit in the drivers seat and adjusted for my weight Mine is aligned to: Front Camber -.2 on both Toe 0.0 on both Rear Camber -1.6 on both Toe +0.05 on both |
My '99 was just aligned and rear left is -1.7 and rear right is -2.2. I asked why the right was so far out from -1.8 to -0.8 ands told it is normally caused by a collision. The CarFax, on mine, didn't indicate any collisions but I've been told that CarFax wouldn't indicate a collision if it wasn't reported and the car was fixed on the sly. They did an inspection and couldn't find any damage and wrote it off to the ROW suspension I installed and the 2001 S rear axle housings that were installed when I had the car converted to the Big Red brake system so the emergency brake could operate. They didn't seem to think it was a big deal that it was off by that much. To get it as right as can be an alignment like JayG's has to be done.

Gator- suggest go to your Indie and have them check for distortion of the suspension components. If someone curbed it or jumped a curb for example, that could have slightly bent it.
Can't really re-bend the defect ,need new/used replacement part. Once that has been fixed, suggest you get a comprehensive alignment done at a shop that handles damaged cars. The average tire+alignment shop seldom know what to look for on repaired, previously damaged cars. |

This is probably the source of your problem. The uprights may be out of place. If none of the parts have any impact damage you may be able to correct the problem by loosening & realigning all the parts. |
So.... Previous owner put 987parts on the car???!!! Are these even interchangable? http://i1050.photobucket.com/albums/...ds/image_2.jpg

If anyone can confirm that these parts do not fit or are interchangeable with a 2002 5 speed Boxster I would appreciate you saving me money to replace the wrong parts

One easy way to look them up is the part diagrams on Auto Atlanta:
http://www.********************************************.com/porsche-parts/hardparts.php?dir=986-97-04§ion=501-00 It will show you the right part numbers. |
Update 10/10/2015
So I replaced the rear passengers side rear subframe (it was from a 987), replaced the tranny mount, the engine mount, replaced long track arm and side control arm. Still nothing. if you look at my brake rotor on the passengers side the bottom of it is pushed in and the top of it sticks out. Could this be the spindle or the hub, or the strut? Alex |
