Did I break my steering wheel clock spring?

I pulled off the steering wheel for a 4 stalk upgrade and I guess I should have taped the clock spring. It went "spring" and unwound itself (I think).

I'm ready to put everything back together now. It has words on it that seem to say wind it all the way one way, then back 2 turns. I don't seem to have any spring action at all.

I hold the little clip, and I wind and it gets tougher, then easier, but it doesn't ever seem to push back.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help

dave

Nevermind, it isn't broken. I read on Renntech that it isn't a spring at all, just a long data cable. I think that is right. I wound it to a spot where it seems happy and all is well.
