Brake Upgrade Idea

okay, looking at the specs for the base 986 vs. 986S brakes, i notice that the pistons are identically sized.

i know the pads are a few millimeters taller and wider, but what's to stop us from shimming the calipers away from the steering knuckle and mounting 986S rotors? can anyone who has the parts handy check to see if 986S pads will sit properly in a 986 base caliper? what, if anything, keeps them from sliding in? thanks.

Hi,

The OEM Brakes on the 986 are more than adequate. The UpGrade is mostly a marketing allure for the 'S'.

If you're tracking or auto-xing, different story, but otherwise, it's just mostly Automotive Jewelry...

Insite, get you some cross drilled rotors made for the 986 when it's time to replace them and paint your calipers red. Everyone will think you have Brembo S brakes on the car as there's rarely an S parked right next to you for comparison.

calipers are already red. the reason really is cooling (i do track the car a lot). i see no benefit to the S calipers other than the fact that they let you use S rotors, which are thicker and larger.

also, they'd look a bit better with the 18" wheels.
