2002 Boxster Creaking steering

Hi All
My Boxster has this bad creaking when stationary and moving very slowly to the left or right
I had my mechanic look at it and he says it is not the tops strut mounts which seem-to be a common problem
He said the noise is coming from the internal parts of the steering rack?
The only way to confirm this is to remove the rack and send it for testing?
Even when the car is not running you have this creaking
Any ideas?
Cheers

Garage
Lower control arm ball joints can cause a creaking. I have that problem on my Right side only. I squirt WD40 in the boot every few thousand miles and that keeps it quite
I'm about to replace the arms in the next month so that should cure it all together
