Where's this bypass valve?

Doing my annual oil change and wanted to see if the bypass valve in the stock canister is open or closed. How the heck do you see it?

You are looking at the top of it, it is cylindrically shaped. To get a side view, you need to slide a dental mirror down along side it.

In any case, the typically do not look any different if they are slightly stuck open.
