As an aside, when I switched oils from Mobil 1 0W40 to a slightly heavier Shell Helix 5W40, I noticed a reduction in cold start puffs of oil.
Short engine runs also exacerbate the smoking when starting up the following day, so I keep that to a bare minimum.....
