Chain tensioners - cardinal error
 

Opps, I made the cardinal error of not bagging every single part while working on the IMS bearing. I thought the chain tensioners were both the same. They are not. One of these goes on the top of the engine 2002 Boxster S 3.2L and the other goes on the bottom.

Can someone tell me which is which?

By the way, there are 3 tensioners, not two. Each tensioner is clearly marked by the rings which are clearly visible at the end of the tensioners in you second photo. Get a manual and you can find which tensioner goes where.

It's odd that there is no ID for these, have you searched the 'install' videos?. Good luck.

There are corresponding rings on the engine to designate which goes where.Just match the number of rings.You may have to clean up the engine a little near the hole for the tensioner.Be careful not to get any dirt in the hole.

Each of the 3 tensioners is marked with zero,1,or 2 rings & the proper location has a corresponding 1, 2, or no ring on the engine case. The tensioner with no ring goes on top for the 4-6 cylinder head, the tensioner with no ring goes on the bottom.
