What are these things?

Sorry for the newbie question, but can someone tell me what these small plastic oval shaped lenses are here by the dome lamp and top latch? They are pretty loose and rattle a lot.

Thanks Mark! Is there ever a need to open these things up or do maintenance? I'd like to put a drop of silicone adhesive to secure them better and silence the rattle. Advisable?

Silicone adhesive won't be a problem.

BTW, years ago when I first got my box and both were missing (ugly!) I asked about them and I was told that they were officially called "those alien eyes by the dome light" by forum members.

hahahaha!!!!!

The fit of the alien eyes is abysmal. This is one place where the cost cutting on the Boxster really shows. A drop or two of adhesive will stop the rattle and/or keep them from falling out (which is what mine did over every big bump).

The most common reason to remove the alien eyes is to get to the screws that hold the cover in place so you can replace the top microswitch. Best to use something that will allow future removal (the next owner will thank you instead of curse you) and keep the amount to a minimum.

thstone,
the microswitch you refer to does it also control the interior dome light?
My dome light just works when it wants to?

Garage
Mine rattleted, so I ordered two from my local dealer, and popped them right in.
With the new tabs being much more snug, no more rattle.

Never Mind. Found them after a little googling on Pelican Parts -

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search_2014.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=N&SUPERCAT_FLAG=Y&make=POR&model=1047&section=ELSWCH&page=3&bookmark=13&part_number=996-618-212-02-OEM

They are called "Interior Sensor Trim Cover".

****Anyone know what they are officially called? I am missing one on my left since I bought the car and it sort of bothers me. I can buy it online/ebay but I don't know what to search for. Thanks.****
