Door Speaker Enclosure Volume

Ok - not an easy find for me...trying to figure out the CU ft volume for the door "subwoofer" enclosures. Specifically part # 996.645.551.00 pic included for reference.

The reason I'm asking is to get an idea how close I am to meeting some CU ft volume requirements for some shallow mount subs to add to the door. My current base box doesn't even have door speakers - so adding these enclosures seems like a good way to at least start the process. Obviously modifying the enclosure to accept a 6.5" sub, or even trying to stretch to a 8" sub with some modification.

Anyway - there are some subs out there that are designed for small enclosures - I have found some as low as .18 Cu ft

Until I get these enclosures in my possession to measure out I won't know what I have ...that is unless anyone has a link to the answer? Appreciate an assist - apologize in advance if the info is already out there...just couldn't find it

I really would like to find this info also. Like you said, this is much easier to modify the enclosure to accept an equal volume woofer.

In reality, it doesn't make that much difference for a car system

The door enclosures are not very large
I would guess its around .25 to .5 cuft

Don't forget the enclosure differs based on MY as I recall.

Better off just making your own baffle...

Or just fill it with something like sand, and measure the volume of what you added. We did this back in the day for spare tire well sub enclosures to calculate volume.

Found a post on another forum - someone filled the enclosure with water and it was .14cu after the calculations. That was for the extended enclosure that I posted... the earlier models had a shorter / smaller enclosure which would be even worse...

In the end, not many speakers can perform in that range and produce decent bass or even mid-bass. I will probably use the door as the enclosure with appropriate sound material...

Adding weight to a Boxster seems counter intuitive no? And isn't the engine enough symphonics? Whatever floats your enclosure though I suppose. Godspeed.

Lol - I hear you - just trying to get some decent bass if the opportunity presents itself.

Personally, I never have the radio on - I enjoy the sound of the car too much. Good thing too since I just caught the water pump start to fail...parts on order...

My wife on the other hand, prefers the music while driving...this has resulted in conversations with her saying "I think the car is making a noise"...which translates to whatever is breaking is now going beyond the cheap repair...

In any case - I appreciate the feedback - and the ribbing...
