Finally got around to doing my garage queens IMS
Installed new LNE/IMSB today, although the old double row after almost 50000 miles was still perfect - no play whatsoever. Along with that replaced the RMS, pilot bearing and clutch...
and due to the fact that the cam deviation was off a little I pulled the cam covers and replaced the vario cam pads, cam to cam chains as well as a set of new tensioners :-) should be good for another 14 years now :) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1399416281.jpg You can clearly see the lower was actually wearing where the chain center is... glad I replaced them. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1399416297.jpg New Tensioners are a little different looking, especially the center one. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1399416308.jpg Oil filter nice and clean http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1399416767.jpg Sump plate, after pulling it http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1399416775.jpg Old IMS http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1399416787.jpg |
Congratulations.

Awesome job man, love the pictures. Glad to see your old imsb intact. :)

Had you been noticing pieces of plastic, from your vario cam pads, in your previous oil changes?
|
Just a few pieces here and there, nothing out of the ordinary... I've taken others apart and they were filled with plastic bits. Sometimes they tend to collect between the sump plate baffle and the little raised ridge on the inside on the plate but nothing to be found there either...

Heiko,
Have you noticed a reduction in start-up chain rattle with the new tensioners? I'm seriously considering replacing mine... I get about 1-2 seconds of clatter if the car sits a few days between drives. Sounds terrible. |
Yes it seems to make a difference, they are easy to replace (perfect time is when doing an oil change) even the one in bank 2 is easy with the right tool... :)
Just make sure you submerge them in some oil and pump them full and then shove them in :) Autopartsway.ca had a good price on them a while ago (I think I paid like $340 for all three) I did a tension test on the old ones and new ones and there was quite a difference.... H |
