Updated chain tensioner...tooth vs. roller

Hi, I have a '98 boxster that has had the "chain rattle" upon cold start-up since I purchased the car two years ago. Shortly after purchasing the car, I replaced the three internal tensioners with new, genuine porsche parts. It had little to no effect.

I know porsche issued an updated intermediate tensioner that I would like to try. It is noted that the updated tensioner is to be used with "tooth" style timing chains, as opposed to the "roller" type.

Does anyone know how I can determine what type of timing chain that I have? Is there a way to utilize the VIN number to find out?

Thanks
