My car has the PCM1 system hogging a big chunk of the dash. It must have been great in its day, but I really don't need a dinosaurian twelve year old bit of tech with very limited functionality and a satnav which was near-useless even when mapping discs were still available hogging a major bit of dashboard space. It also means that the climate control unit sits awkwardly behind the transmission shifter.
So I'd like to remove it completely, move the climate control back up to where Porsche intended and replace it with a modern alternative. I prefer Garmin satnavs (and loathe TomTom), would like to have a BlueTooth link to my phone so I can continue to make handsfree calls, would like an iPhone or aux input, USB, and ideally an SD card slot, and if the CD multi-changer in the frunk can be re-used that would be good but not essential. I'd also like to retain automatic volume control. If all that also gives me a small additional dashboard storage hole then that's even better.
Retaining some alternative way of displaying the trip computer info with regards to fuel consumption and average speed would also be useful, if I understand correctly some other Boxsters display that information via the trip meter.
Any suggestions regarding hardware and interfacing, or can anyone recommend a really good ICE supply and fitting shop in S.E. England?
