Hi guys, love the forum, very informing. I am new to this forum and to Porsche Boxters. My question is: Typically
at what mileage does the clutch need replacing. Thinking ahead towards an IMS bearing upgrade. Thanks in advance.
You'll get all kinds of varying answers on this one. As you probably realize, it depends a lot on how the car is driven---how aggressively, and how new to clutching/manual shifting the driver is. In my case (a 2001S that I bought in 2006), I've got 71K miles on the original clutch, though I suspect I'm getting close the point where I'm due. I don't feel any slippage yet though.
My '04 S has 95k on it and it's getting a new clutch, ims bearing and rms next week. It doesn't slip yet, but is getting hard to push in and the rms (I presume) is leaking. I will sleep better knowing the ims bearing is replaced. A friend of mine replaced his clutch (04 S) at 135k recently; kept the stock ims bearing in it.
Thanks guys, that's kinda what I was hoping. Just wasn't sure if a performance car like the Boxter needed something special like a clutch change at 30/40k. I've 72k on the clock, so expect a replacement sooner than later.
