986 Base model front calipers?
 

Anyone do a brake upgrade and have a nice set of Base front calipers sitting on a shelf in need of a home? After 100k miles, 15 years, and 80 track days mine are beginning to show their age. I suppose I could just buy a new set but...

Maybe there is a rebuild kit available?

Anyone know?

for my understanding, to rebuild a caliper you just need to replace the rubber seals, and give them a good clean.
doesn't look too hard or expensive.

I could find the dust covers and brake lines at pelican but no seals. I need both.

Call Pelican. They do not list the inner seals on the website but they should be able to order the seals for you from Brembo.

I should have a few sets around too. I've rebuilt them with the Brembo seals in the past.

The caliper pistons are aluminum with a thin coating on them that seems to be easily damaged. If your dust boots are in bad shape, the piston finish may have been damaged. If so, you may need pistons in addition to the sealing rings. This is what I found on my 987 after a few years of track events and not changing the dust boots (doh!).

I was able to get all the parts at ********************************************************************. They were brembo parts kits with porsche 951 series part numbers on them. They matched exactly with the original 987 parts. They don't specifically spec the 986 parts, but it would be worth giving them a call.

Brembo has a warehouse in Fountain Valley CA shame on them if they don't stock everything you need there.

I get my seals at Zeckhausen Racing. About $50 to rebuild both front calipers.

If you want to replace the calipers, you can get brand new calipers for $348 each at sonnen porsche.

Good info guys, it looks like Stoptech has them too. 40mm looks like the size so now a minor project before the next track day. I will also do new brake lines, fresh fluid, rotors and pads while I'm in there.
