Flat Spot During Hard Acceleration & Now Engine Code 1126

I believe I may know the problem and just some confirmation. I have a 2001 Boxster S six speed with 21,400 miles on it. Original owner, no engine mods and stock air filter.

During hard acceleration (WOT) I hit a flat spot momentarily while passing about 3300 RPMs. Nothing major, but you can feel it.

Several months ago on a hot day the check engine light came on. I got home and checked it and it was 1126. I did my due diligence and came up with several issues that could have caused it. I put some lube on the O-ring of the oil filler cap, cleared the code and have put about 500 miles on the car without issue. Until today.

Today the check engine light came on and after checking the code reader I found it was the same 1126 code. Based on this code and the flat spot at 3300 RPMs I am thinking that it is the MAF based on my reading of this and other Porsche forums.

Thoughts? TIA

My 1126 and 1128 code went away after a thorough cleaning of the MAF using mass air flow sensor cleaner.

As Brian said, clean the MAF. If you have a Durametric, look at all the MAF parameters to see if theyy are out of spec. Another thing to check is to see if you have a vacuum leak.

My troubleshooting guide suggests checking these items for proper operation in the following order:
  1. MAF
  2. Exhaust leak
  3. Intake leak
  4. Fuel pressure
  5. Fuel volume
  6. Injectors

It has been a year since my codes went away. I also had purchased a new MAF online ( not bosch ) and the car ran terrible with it in. Cleaned and put the old one back in and it has been code free ever since.

I can't believe I didn't post a follow up to this thread. It was in fact the MAF that caused the codes. I tried cleaning it without luck. I replaced it with an aftermarket Bosch unit I purchased from RockAuto. All good ever since the replacement.

Which part # did u get from RockAuto? I am getting codes due to the MAF but I just shipped my '01 S so I can't check the part. I want a new one waiting for when I pick up my car.

Thanks.

BOSCH 0280218055; More Information for BOSCH 0280218055

This is the MAF for a Boxster with traction control (PSM).

Good deal. They have come down in price since I bought mine in February of last year. Then it was $181 shipped.
