Cowl Panel Covering molding/gasket search - 986 Forum - The Community for Porsche Boxster & Cayman Owners

I'm replacing the cowl panel covering on my 1999.
I ordered from my local dealership and picked up yesterday.
One of the reasons I was replacing, aside from it being faded, was that the gasket/molding that fits between the covering and the windshield was partially missing, or down between the panel and the windshield.

I figured this gasket/molding would come with the panel, but did not.
I went by the dealer this morning and asked about it, but he could not locate the gasket/molding.

Does anyone know what part number that would be, or does it come with another part?

The cowl panel covering shows on page 334 of the Porsche catalog. Part number: 996 572 563 05 01C for black.

The gasket/molding doesn't show on this page, and I cannot seem to locate it either.

Any ideas?

I recently replaced this due to fading and breakage of the passenger side screw mount (which is now somewhat beefier as redesigned). Ordered the seal with it. Don't remember part numbers but was readily accessible on ******************************************** web site. Service with them was OK - a bit slow & left off one ordered part (2 left screw covers instead of one of each), but promptly replaced. Feel sure they could get you what you need, or at least the part number. Be careful getting the driver side wiper arm off - you may want to split some small tubing and pad the back edge of your hood - ask me how I know.

Thanks for the replies.
I will try to be careful when pulling off the wipers.
I guess I should have figured the gasket was for the cowl panel cover.
The parts catalog I use is not interactive like the one from the Auto Atlanta site, so I couldn't click and view.
When I click the part number, it's obvious that's what I need.
I will bookmark the interactive catalog for future needs.

Problem solved thanks to the fine folks at 986forum.com

I got my new gasket today.
I was looking to see how it fastened onto the cowl panel cover, but it doesn't seem to fit on there very well.
Did you glue the gasket to your cover, or tack to the windshield first?
What would be the best way to be sure it looks neat and straight?

no no no.
no glue.
the rubber goes on the plastic part in a very particular angle.
it took me sometime to figure it out. just "play" with it. take your time, and be patient with it.

If I get the gasket on the correct way, does it stay on correctly without falling off during installation?

Yes. The rubber gasket's forward-most edge sort of clamps onto the inner plastic ledge of the cowl, as I recall, where it will stay while you install the cowl.

I got the gasket on this evening. The middle part was easy, but for some reason, both ends were kind of strange. Porsche could have done a better job with that.

It seems to stay on okay except for the ends, so I put small pieces of tape underneath at both ends to hold the gasket in place until I have time to pull the old one off and replace with the brand new cowl panel cover, and the new gasket.
