If its an up and down squeak (meaning noise both directions) its a good bet its the strut. Technically you can drive on it and you will be OK. My 98' before her rebuild was running on totally shot original struts (when I bought her).

Be on the lookout for suspensions that come up for sale on here. I found a full set brand new ROW M030 struts and springs for $450 from a member. There have been other good deals on here recently.

These cars are truly and education and by the time your done you will probably know quite a bit about them. Good luck!
