Cigarette Lighter Delete

Has anyone tried this mod ? Any improvement in performance ?

grubinski 06-21-2012 06:34 AM

Kind of a trade off. The car is lighter, so it turns, stops, and brakes better, but it sits a little higher. I think I'll have to lower it some more.

jaykay 06-21-2012 11:07 AM

JD you only need this kind of performance mod for track driving.....besides you will be sorry when you can't light up a Djarum...

san rensho 06-21-2012 11:45 AM

Runs a lot cooler without the lighter. No need for a low temp thermostat.

thstone 06-21-2012 11:49 AM

What? Are you crazy? The engineers at Porsche know best and since THEY decided that you needed a lighter, who are you to go against their 50 years of engineering expertise, testing, and analysis?

I'm thinking - less draw on the electrical system means greater spark to the engine which will result in more power ?

nope, less draw on the system = less parasitic drag from the alternator.

soooo to geek out:

Watts/745.7 (one HP) = Electrical output in HP
HP x 10% Efficiency Loss (guessing here) = HP Loss
HP + Efficiency Loss = Total HP used

so lets figure ~160 watts for the lighter

160 / 745.7 =.215
.215 X .10 = .0215
.215 + .0215 = .236hp

That blasted lighter is costing you nearly a quarter of a hp when your girl fires up a Marlboro!

You've come a long way Baby!

What's the point of more power if you can't spark a fatty and enjoy it?

Damn straight Mark, also I like to hone my driving "skills" by being able to downshift, push in the lighter, brake, pull out lighter, up shift, light cigar and hit a perfect apex. Man there is enough being taken over by the cars today to reduce driving fun so leave the lighter in and use it often. You will soooo enjoy your driving experience more!!!

AKL

I don't think that Mark T. was referring to a cigar when he mentioned a "fatty".

+1!

(WHY do they have this idiotic "10 character minimum" on this board???)

Mark_T 06-22-2012 04:43 AM

That's ok - Allen makes a good point nonetheless.

truegearhead 06-22-2012 01:20 PM

I stuck a wine cork in mine, gave me +2 vanity points. You can really feel the difference, I went with a 2010 Vintage year Port.

You might try looking in your ash try that were I found mine
