Brake wear indicator

A few weeks back I took my 99 Boxster to my first HPDE. Everything went well, and had a great time. However on the second to last run, as I began to get slightly more aggressive in my braking, the brake wear light came on.

I ducked out the run to make sure there wasn't a huge issue. I visually checked and it looked like plenty of pad material left, so I went ahead with the last run.

Ordered new pads when I got home and when I went to put them on, the pads that were on the car were just about the same thickness as the new pads. It seems the front wear sensors got too hot from braking and kind of melted, and triggered the dash light.

I went ahead and did all the pads and all new sensors, but was wondering if this was a common issue. If you regularly track your car do the wear indicators give you problems?
