				Help? Identify this switch/function?

I just purchased a used 2008 RS60 Boxster S Spyder and does anyone out there know what the little round I/O switch on the side of the center console, right where your right leg may rub against might be???
It's nowhere in the manual and I cannot determine what it does.

Sounds like a switch for radar or some other installed device possibly. Have you tried to trace the wire to see where it goes?

If you are referring to the knob seated at the opposite of the cigarette lighter,
Then this switch is used to control the wipers intervals when the lever is on the first stage.

I'll take a photo and post it later tonight... Not able to trace the wiring as Id rather not take apart the center console... The car does have an iPod interface that might have something to do with it...

Extremely curious...that doesn't look like a hack job at all, so either someone did a good job of placing that in there or it's a factory switch.

Maybe it's a kill switch? Try clicking it to the "O" and see if you can start the car.

I don't think it's a factory switch as it matches none of the others but whoever placed it did a great finish job. I'd bet it has some stereo function since the stereo is clearly a replacement.

Must be a passenger eject button? follow the wires where it leads to or contact the previous owner.

Clean install for whatever it is. If there is also one on other side could it be for heated seats if you do not have in center stack (or even just for driver seat).
Check fuse panel for any extra wires (though if they went to such clean measures for switch install, they likely did same for the power lead). Those style switches are usually just compression fit from front. You might try gently prying out but that'll likely just lead to a pair of wires which could go anywhere in the console.

Could be a quick kill switch for radar or laser 'blinder'. As suggested, turn it on and see if car starts or seats get warm. Also, see if it draws anything measurable, turn car on (do not start) and take reading across battery terminals w/ it off, then on.

Good luck

Seeing as it was mentioned that there's components in place for an mp3 player, check to see if this switch shuts off that functionality while playing your player, if you have one.

I really want to know what this does, now.

			Thanks to all!
It's actually a switch to some kind of stereo sound amplifier!
I plugged in an mp3 player and couldn't get it to work, but while fiddling with it in a quiet garage the sound difference with just the radio was noticeable.
Who would have thought the premium bose sound package wasn't enough
