HELP! My Top Won't Go Down!

So I get into my car and prepare for a nice drive with the top down. When I press my button to lower the top, NOTHING! I had never had this problem before. It's been several days and the button still is not lowering the top. I don't know if it's a short or if the electric motor has an issue or what? Where do I look and what do I do? Your help is appreciated since the SEARCH function didn't give me the answer.

the obvious things to check are

1) you pulled the latch over the rear view mirror
2) the e-brake is engaged

Both have switches that disable the top

If they are, try engaging the e-brake another notch or two?

Is the "convertible top" light on the instrument cluster on?

I had this issue before, and it took me an entire week before I realized that the small switch that the latch pushes in just above the rear view mirror was jammed in, which made it so even if the e-brake was on, and the latch was opened, pushing the button wouldn't do anything lol. Just push your finger up in there and make sure that the round disc button thing moves freely up and down.

I had even went and got a button for the dash to lower the top. when replacing that didn't work, I finally realized the switch was jammed haha.

May not be the problem here, but it it something to at least check...

Have you done a search of the forum to see what information is available on this frequently-addressed topic?

Double check your Parking-Brake Light. My 2000 Boxster has it round and it says "PARK" on it. If it doesn't come on, you have a bad switch which is cheap to replace yourself but expensive to do so in the dealer due to the labor to remove your center console. Basically, the top won't motor on unless the system recognizes your car is in park.
