Updated RMS part number?
Can someone help me with the part number for the "updated" rear main seal?

This is for a MY00 Tiptronic if it matters.

My Indy has the car and will be removing the transmission. I was going to have him replace this seal while he had it out and I heard there was a revised version of this seal available.

997-101-212-00 is the latest PTFE seal; about $23 at retail.

Make sure he uses the proper Porsche tool to recess it properly and to avoid damaging the seal.

If DIY hot do you ensure the seal is seated as it should be? Can't seem to find a tech article on RMS replacement.

The factory service manual and the tool in my picture above is all you need. Any other method is not as precise. I've tried to make several substitutes and have wasted a couple of new RMSs. The home made tools usually end up installing the seal unevenly.

You need tools #9699 and insert guide #9699/2, currently Porsche only and sell for about $500 for both items. Baum and another tool maker are looking at developing aftermarket versions, but have not done so to date, probably because of the very small market size...........
