Exhaust smoke on start up

[St. Louis Boxster]

I've got an 04 Box, not an S, and after the car sits in the garage for a couple of days I get a significant amount of smoke out of the exhaust on start up. It goes away quickly, like by the time I back up into the street. The oil level is fine, the car has 8K miles. Recent;y 2 months ago, I had a seal replaced on the rear end that was causing some oil drips on the floor.

Any Boxter forensics out there?

Very common on these cars. I forget why but most if not all Boxsters do.

The 986 faq.com website has this info. on start up white smoke:
The Boxster engine uses a flat six cylinder design. Because of this construction, oil residue remains under the piston heads and burns off at every start up. This can produce a white puff of smoke. It should only lasts a few seconds. This is normal, and no correction is necessary.

Both my old 911 and the '99 Box smoke on startup. The 911 frequently, and the Box upon rare occasion.
The horizontal opposed cylinder configuration is frequently offered as an explanation, but answer me this ...
I have had two different VW beetles with opposed 4s and never had anything like the same smoke issue, nor have I heard of people with Subarus (also opposed 4cyl) having smoke on startup. This seems to be a phenomenon pretty much restricted to Porsche 6cyl. Even the old 356 4 cyl didn't do it, as far as I know.
I don't get it, really.

Maybe its the 0-40 oil, as its very thin...

I don't think it is the oil. Actually 0-40 is NOT thin but is a full 40 wt oil.

Moreover, I have used 15-50 in my 911s and they still do this!
