intermittent knocking noise on a 986

My 2003 Boxster just started having an intermittent knocking noise. Starting the car usually does not produce the knocking noise, but eventually it will. Once the knocking noise it will go away at any given time, but there will be times that the noise will come back.

Any suggestions from a more experienced, savvy Boxster operator?

Garage
More info needed or a WAV file.

In general any loud knocking noise is bad and requires immediate investigation by a qualified Porsche mechanic.

When does it happen? Where does it sound like it's coming from? Could be anything from bad gas to loose axle bolts. Need more info.

I just did my throttle body cleaning and i have a noise on startup as well. Not sure if its the same as the OP but it sounds like the throttle flap is opening and closing hard and the sound comes out of the air intake vent on driver side. Also sounds like i left something in the tubes that is being tossed around. But i swear i didnt!

Checked all connections and titness on clamps and they seem fine. No codes being reported either.

didnt mean to hijack the thread but i think we are chasing the same ghost.

sin,

I'm guessing you are in Las Vegas? I'll be out there this Friday staying at our Lake Mead house and visiting with a Porsche client who has a house on Lake Las Vegas. If you are in Las Vegas, I have NO issues driving within an hour of Las Vegas proper (in any direction) to stop by and *listen* to the car. I'll *probably* have a PIWIS with me for diagnostics.
