19 inch wheels on 97

I bought a set of 18 inch wheels and tires before reading the posts on Rennlist that say the suspension on a 97 can't handle the extra weight of 18s. I have since beenj tryng to find out exactly what problem(s) 18s would cause, and if normal street driving would cause any issues. What changed in 98 and what would break if I put these 18s on. They have been sitting for some time while I have unsuccessfully tried to find out what hould do. Upgrade suspension? what upgrades? Or just get rid of them.

Thanks

18" rims....

I'm not sure why they will not fit on the '97, I know in '98 they were not offered from the factory either, but were offered in '99......Besides using wheel spacers, I don't know why they would not fit, but I have not done any wheel mods whatsoever, so hopefully someone who has will chime in...
