The price for the supplies is why I pay for my work. At $9 per quart, that's $81 plus tax for oil alone. Add in the filter and your 80% to a professional oil change. It's not worth my time as I can make money while they work on my car. That's not even including the proper disposal of the used oil.

This has earned a touché. Well said, sir. For those who want the savings and have the time, you have the option to DIY. For those without the time and/or maybe the desire to wrench their own car, or any other multitude of reasons, there are the experts you pay a premium to for the convenience of not using your own time to work on the car. I'd love to wrench my own car more often than I do, but I find that if the car needs something and I don't have the time to get at it, might as well let someone else who makes it their business to have the time do it for me.
