Eliminating muffler

I just did this in order to lose some weight and here are the results. First off you lose apx. 30 lbs., it is loud with the straight pipes and the drone at 2500 is unbearable to me, but not hopeless. I bought a set of 2" x 8" motorcycle baffles and fiberglass wrap, about 25.00 total on ebay. With just the baffle the drone is just about as bad as straight pipes, but if you wrap the baffle with the fiberglass the drone goes away. I am primarily using the car as a track car this summer and will be running the straight pipes, but I did want to be able to use it on a few occasions and the baffles and fiberglass has worked out. I don't know if i would recommend it for strictly a street car, my purpose was mainly to lose weight and that worked out. Hope this helps. Bill, Pgh, PA

Thank you both for the inputs... don't think I'm going to do it.

I'd keep looking for a shop to handle the bypass modification. I have one on my Box S, modified by Oettle http://www.oettle.org/home.html . The modified muffler, along with Fabspeed bypass pipes, creates a great sounding exhaust with no resonance or drone.
