Fuel pump and associated problems, help please !

Hi Guys,

I have a 2003 3.2S. It was running fine until left outside for two weeks after which it wouldn't start. It was cranking but not firing. I had it taken to a local independent who specializes in German cars. Anyway they replaced but fuel pump and the engine will now run, HOWEVER, apparently now the tachometer and the dash lights are not working and apparently there is a fuel level warning light on. He is suggesting that when the fuel pump stopped working (while the car was sitting with the engine off) it somehow has possibly blown the dash 'pod'.

I don't know a lot about car electrics but this seems nonsense !

Any thoughts about this possibility (I'm slightly concerned that the fuel pump just stopped working while the car was left as well.)

Thanks

Stuart

Outside in England...was the weather very wet. I would look behind the drivers seat and check for water. The ECU sits directly under you and if it gets wet, you can have all kind of problems. I would have Porsche test to be sure it is working correctly.

Just a thought, but check your ignition switch. If it is stiff or not working correctly a whole lot of weird stuff can happen. Some of your symptoms can occur with a faulty ignition switch.

It was outside during quite a lot (for here!) of snow. However the interior was dry. Initially I thought it was dampness that was causing some sort of electrical short but there was no real evidence of fuel not being burnt when turning the engine over. I'm surprised the fuel pump was working one day then not the next time the car was used but I guess these things happen. Just seems odd to me that the other dash problems have occurred at the same time.

Oh and the ignition seemed fine as when I was cranking it all the usual warning lights came on andthe engine turned over. As I said now the fuel pump has been changed it does start. I have to say I've nevere experienced this sort of problem with ANY car before !
