Pic of removed airbox?
Hi guys,
I am planning on making my own airbox and would like to know if anyone has any pictures of the stock unit after its been removed? Failing that, are there any hints/tips on how to remove it? I have heard that you have break it to remove it? Thanks, Sam |
I can get you a picture of mine tonight (27 Oct) when I get back from work.
|
That'd be great - cheers!

Actually looks kinda restrictive. The air flows inthrough the snorkle up to the top of the box, then down through the filter and out through the MAF. Makes two 90 degree turns at minimum and no clear path. Maybe an intake isin't such a bad idea. Anyone else disagree?
|
I made that argument a year ago...and it's four squared off 90 degree turns and then strained through the screen that sits just before the MAF sensor. I now have an EVO intake with an Outerwear pre-filter. It's a straight shot from the outside and no screen...the throttle response and intake sound is intoxicating.

Brilliant - this was exactly what I was after!
Any tips on removal? Looks like it would just be those few visible bolts and obviously the intake pipe after the MAF? I am quite positive my carbon airbox/intake pipe will be far superior to this stock item now :) Sam |
Quite honestly, if you want it out in one piece I think you have to drop the engine!! I removed mine...one piece at a time. I found my current Boxster air box on EBay for $25, I thought that if I ever sell my car I'd like to have all the stock parts to go with it. Good luck!

I read a thread where a guy removed his airbox without destroying it. There was one mounting tab that he had to break off but it mostly came out in one piece. It might have been on Renntech. He gave a detailed thread with pics. I can't recall exactly what site it was.

hehe fair enough. Found a manual to the evo intake online which kinda gave me that impression. Removing the intake manifold seems slightly over the top..
Might have to source a spare one from the for sale section here to use as my build template - cant afford to have the car off the road for a few weeks in this lovely weather (its just coming into Summer in Australia  ) Anyone have a spare they could sell me? Sam |
Oh that thread I was talking about didn't remove the intake manifold. That's why he had to break that tab.
|
If you happen to come across the thread - please let me know.
Cheers, Sam |
Thanks for the reply, but I have safely removed my air box now and have completed my carbon intake project.
Very happy with the results too! Cheers, Sam |

Yep - took it out complete, undid the left side intake and also a bit of the power steering system.
Sounds daunting, but really wasnt that big of a deal. Sam |
