SMOKED by a Dodge NEON!!!
Yes that is correct, my $50,000 2000 Boxster S was smoked by a $23,000 Dodge Neon. Not any Neon obviously, a SRT-4 roughly 232 HP to the wheels STOCK. He had an upgraded exhaust, intercooler, and intake at the least I could tell visually.
I am upset at this, however in the context I should have lost. We started at 60 MPH and I let off at 120MPH 5 car lengths BEHIND in a straight line. Had we started at a stop light or had some turns I could have took him.
Next Step, on to Hergesheimer Motorsports in Lake Forest for my RevoTECHNIC chip upgrade and thinking about removing my muffler with some straight pipe 2 inch out the back or whatever is smaller (stock).
Just thought to share the story and have fun. :ah:

Had you kept running with him past 120 mph to say, 135 or so, you would have beat him on the high end ... your six cylinder and suspension beats his any day.
But this doesn't matter because he'd have wrecked his car if he drove that thing any faster than 120 mph. It may be tweaked, but the car is an econobox and not designed for high speeds.
Lots of luck with a chip mod... I hear they cost a lot and do little to nothing as far as actual HP gains.

No need to get worked up and go spend a zillion dollars. At the end of the day which car would you rather have his Dodge Neon or your Porsche Boxster? I believe it is a no brainer.

The NASA, Porsche Club of America and SCCA have lots of nice tracks and autocross events where you can demonstrate your Boxster's suprioriorty over an SRT.
Improve the driver not the car.
The Boxster was not engineered for years by very talented German engineers and designers for drag strip racing. If that's your preferred style of racing I suggest you sell that $50K car and buy a Shelby Mustang.
The steering wheel on the Boxster was meant to be turned left and right.

Hi Perfectlap,
"I am upset at this, however in the context I should have lost. We started at 60 MPH and I let off at 120MPH 5 car lengths BEHIND in a straight line. Had we started at a stop light or had some turns I could have took him." just a quote you may have missed in my initial thread.

The first day I had my boxster a guy came up to me and said "I saw a Neon smoke one of these!"
I just said: "Yeah, those SRT-4 are quick but at the end of the day you still have to drive home in a neon"
I don't care what you shoehorn under the hood, It is still a plastic, cheap car and it will never ever be able to achieve the level of refinement and performance of a Porsche.
I came from a hopped up WRX to my stock boxster and i never looked back.

If it was from a 60mph roll i hope you started in 3rd gear and not 4th, but I have a feeling you had it in 4th gear the whole race. I raced a 285hp(not wheel) modded WRX from a 65 roll twice. The first time I was in 3rd and I took him by at least two lenghs when my speedo hit 100mph. The 2nd time I started in 4th and the result flipflopped and he won by about 2 or so lenghs. This shows just how important it is to race at the start of the boxster's max powerband because it doesn't have the lowend grunt of a small block chevy. Let the vario-cam do it's job!

Doesn't matter how fast an SRT-4 is.
It is a POS. End of story.
I'd rather have a WS6 if I wanted to go fast in a straight line. At least it's rear wheel drive. You can get one slightly used for under $20K. Put $3K worth of mods on it and it will demolish just about any car in a drag race to 150 mph.

Why would you even race that... Whats the point.. Racing a ricer in his tin can is a no win proposal.. What do you gain if you win.. You can say yay I raced and demolished a tin can.. I am the man
or you loose get pissed of and the tin can owner has a story for the next 5 years of how his tunning and all the mods and his hp gaining stickers smoked your porsche..
Just my opinion

A stock Neon SRT is actually a tad slower than a stocker boxster S according to the times I have seen. I've also have ridden in two different SRT 4's and they didn't seem any faster than my car. If he would've started in 3rd gear instead of 4th I bet it would've been dead even. Or it shouldv'e been unless this Neon had more mods than listed.

You are absolutely right, but sometimes, just sometimes, ones testosterone gets the better of oneself. A few nights ago, I was at a light alongside a Nissan 350Z waiting to get onto a great long right handed on-ramp for the I85 in Atlanta. It was late, I was in a hurry and I had barely looked over at the guy. In my usual fashion, I took off from the lights like a scalded cat and took it to the line in each gear as I accelerated through this never ending turn. As I hit about 90mph, I started to feel a bit uncomfortable about the front end and backed off slightly. At this point, three quarters of the way through the turn, the 350Z came past me on the inside lane as if I was looking for parking. I threw caution to the win, floored it, but it was too late, he just showed me his lights as he continued to pull away.
My front tires are seriously worn on the inside thanks to some great alignment done by my local Porsche dealer, hence my trepidation on pushing it too hard. But, boy did I smart most of my way home, even if I was a whole litre down on engine.

I started in 3rd Gear a little over 4,000 RPM's right when the Vario-cam kicks in and shifted in 4th upto 120mph. Just the facts, I sill love my Boxster S and would never want anything more (except an 2005 Boxster S)

Wow, I'm suprised you were beaten that badly then. Perhaps he had other mods you didn't know about. I can't wait to take a shot at a SRT 4 even if I do get beat.

Hehe, you can actually drive off the lot in an SRT-4 at 300 Horspower (Stage 3 Turbo Option from the R/T Division at Chrysler) Its amazing, check out the latest Chrysler/Dodge Performance Catalog.

Don't do that if you know what's good for your car. You'll end up losing a whole bunch of torque anything below 6,000rpm. NA cars don't work well with straight piping with oversize diameter.

"Which ever is SMALLER" just wanted to point that out.
Worked as Sales Manager at Magnaflow Performance Exhaust for 2 years. Believe me, I have to talk people out of putting 3 inch pipe on thier 1.8 litre hondas many a time.
I love the Flat 6 sound of the boxster and want to share it with the drivers around me

Someone is always going to be...
faster, cheaper, smarter...you name it! Getting into a power war is not the way to go. Enjoy the car for what you have...a PORSCHE! He is driving a DODGE NEON! Your car is perceived as "mature, expensive, good taste, etc... His car, well...immature kid, lives w/ parents, still trying to build an identity. Next time just smile, wave, keep the mystique of "what if" in these peoples minds and you will drive away with a certain guaranteed satisfaction!
BTW-no offense to those Boxster owners still living at home!
