Clock Light issue

I did thread search and I know this has been covered in other threads, but I still have a couple of questions and some confusion concerning the bulbs and what they illuminate.

1. The digital clock does not light up, when I turn the driving lights on the rest of the gauge is lit up, but still no clock. Is this normal when the bulb burns out? Does the bulb for the clock only light up the clock and a different bulb or method light the rest of the gauge)

2. LED replacements, worth it or not?

3. How much is the approximate cost for a dealer to do this job? How tough of a DIY job is this?

Thanks all,
Keysguy

Edit: 2000 Boxster (sorry forgot to put this info in)
