If these things are wrong could it be the ... ?

1. Rear spoiler doesn't automatically deploy, can be raised manually *but not lowered.

2. No ding when open doors with headlights on.

3. Rear trunk will not open with remote. *but will open with button next to drivers seat.

Could these all be pointing to a bad instrument cluster ?

... to the instrument cluster.

First, the spoiler will go up manually with the one-touch switch on the fusebox, but to lower it you must keep depressing the switch until it lowers completely (it's not one-touch on the way down).

Second, you may have a bad "dinger". Check to see if it's properly connected (over the fusebox - look in your manual for the exact location).

Third, you may have a bad switch on your remote. Check with your other key to see if the trunk opens.

Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

My Boxster did not ding with lights on until I re-flashed the cluster to add the OBC functions. It now behaves differently in a couple ways: more chimes and keeping the LCD displays illuminated for a few minutes after shutting off the car.

Dealer might be able to turn the chime on/off for you.

Hi Pedro, I guess my question is not about the individual items listed (and their proposed solutions) but rather "Does the communication for these 3 items run through the instrument cluster" ?

I know the automatic spoiler raising and lowering is controlled by the cluster. ie. The speed hits 75, sends message to spoiler to raise. etc.

But does the cluster tell the dinger that the light is on when I open my door ?

Does the cluster send a message to the trunk to open when I press the remote ?

So if these 3 things are not working it could indicate a bad cluster ?

Thanks
Terry
