Smart or dumb coils?

Hi guys,

anyone know if the 986 2.5 runs smart or dumb coils? Apparently if they only have two wires going to them they are dumb, mire wires could be either...

Cheers,
Sam

Found some information that will help, if anyone has a coil out they can measure or knows the wiring this will tell:

Three terminals on coil could be either smart or dumb coils.

If dumb, it would be:
12v, ground, and the coil negative signal from an ignition driver inside the ECU.

If smart, it would be:
12v, ground, and the dwell/timing pulse.

Also, a dumb coil will have low resistance between coil positive (12v
pin) and coil negative. Should be less than 1 ohm.

Anyone able to assist with this information?

Regards,
Sam
