will a 98 digital climate control fit in an 01?

I have an 01 Boxster and the climate control unit is broken. I have found several out of 98 and 99's. Are they wired the same? I noticed that mine has a white backing while the older units are black.

Thanks.

This item fits 1997 to 2004 model Porsche Boxsters and 1999 to 2004 Porsche 911 996 series cars-the part number is 996 653 101 03.

Is the unit actually broke or is it the display? as they make a repair kit for the display that can be found on eBay

You know,... it seems that every six months or so there is a new crop of Boxster owners asking the same old questions.

That's OK.

But, it's also why the SEARCH function exists.

Read fellows: Boxster A/C temperature LCD

Cheers!

I was going to purchase a spare just in case, but another boarder told me that this wouldn't work (putting a pre-01 HVAC display in my 01)....

"Your car uses a different controller as it communicates with the other systems via a CAN bus network that is not present on the earlier cars.
-Todd"

Why won't this HVAC unit work with my 01? I notice in your ad that it is for only pre-01 models?

Module '07-'99 won't work in '01 and newer

I tried to make a '97 module (they look the same) work in my '02 and blew a fuse for the whole dash. The temp. number would display but the module did not control the temp.

In the subject above I left out '00 year because I'm told it was a transition year-I guess the old module will work with those '00 cars without the new bus (canbus?).
Here is a picture of the '97 module that did not work in my '02.
