Transmission bolt fell out?

Today I was replacing the flimsy original CV joint boot clamps on the inboard most side of the axles. The clamps were completely loose and grease had started to leak out of the boots. Replaced with radiator hose clamps and all is well, but I digress.

As I'm looking around, I see a threaded hole with no bolt at the lower right side of the tranny bell housing. I looked in the Porsche factory manual and it shows a 10mm tranny mount bolt there, but the threads are cut into the bell housing which doesn't make sense. Wouldn't the threads be cut into the hole in the motor block that the tranny bolts to? Am I missing something?

Of course, a hex head bolt, which I had, doesn't fit and I couldn't find the appropriate allen head bolt on a Sunday, so now I get to take out the diagonals and the plate under the tranny all over again if I have to replace the bolt. Oh well.

I just removed my transmission, and noted that the fastener at the far lower right, at about the 4 o'clock position as you are facing toward the front of the car is actually a through bolt with a nut on the engine side. That was on my 2002 986S. Yours might be different.

Is it the one labelled G or H? Mine was also a through bolt at position H. Was not threaded in my case. (Picture from PelicanParts.com)

Just have it replaced, properly, at the dealership when you have your next check up. My dealer always lets me know if they find anything that needs tweaking or replacing. And it gets done properly.

I wonder if this was meant to be sarcastic?

At any rate, when I pulled my gearbox recently, I found that the bolt located in position E in this diagram wasn't even tight. My engine had been replaced by a previous owner about 10K miles ago, and I am guessing the dealer technician missed tightening this one very well.

Its H on the diagram. After looking at the bonus photos on Pelican, it looks like H is a through hole where a stud on the tranny case fits in, fastened by a nut. I think I may have been looking it a threaded hole that has no bolt in it. For some reason, there are several of these threaded holes with no bolts in varoius places on the tranny case. I have to dig around again to verify this.

Say what...several? What is the history of your car? That is scary.
