headlight spirit level

What is the purpose of the spirit level in the passenger side headlight of the '99 986? I ask the question because I have just received a replacement pair of headlights and neither side has the level built in to it.

Thanks,
Mark

That is an original headlamp. The level was used for headlight aiming.

This lamp has been superceded and the newer model(s) don't have them.

If your D-side lamp is missing it, it has been replaced after the part was superceded.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info! I suspected that the D-side had been replaced because of the difference in fogging on the lens, and this obviously confirms it. A matched pair of used lights seems to be a hard thing to find as even the replacement lights I got, apparently from the same car, aren't quite the same. I should probably stop being such a cheap guy and just buy a pair of new ones!
