Horn honks when I hit the brakes

On a fast stop my horn honks and hitting bumps while going down hill. I think it may be the horn button. anyone know if it is difficult to replace?

Thanks

Thanks for the help, very good information. Looks like something I can do. Any precautions needed with the air bag during change out of the bracket?

Battery disconnected is the big precaution

air bags can kill at short range.

First... disconnect the battery!!!

I used a small screwdriver to pop the plug off the backside of the air bar (once it was loose from the steering wheel). the plug was pressed in pretty hard, but with the screw driver popped it right out. No tab or nothing to have press when popping the plug out.

When you say pop the plug

I assume you are refering to the electrical connector? Nothing else holds the bad in place? Sorry for belaboring this just want to get it right....

Thanks

Gary,

Yes. Simply disconnect the battery (all you need to do is remove the negative side). You will need a Torx driver to remove the two bolts on the back of the steering wheel (T-25 I think). The thread lock on those bolts is pretty strong. The air bag will come loose, there is a small plug connector on the back of the airbag, disconnect that connection and the airbag should be free.

Thanks

thanks for all the great input. Looks like a simple fix. I have the part on order.

Gary

Next item on my list is the head light switch. Sometimes have to turn it on and off and on to get my lights to go on!

Really not too bad for a ten year old car.

Okay, Done!

Very simple job. Took about an hour to replace the part. Hardest part was getting out the Torx screws holding the air bag in place; only had a driver had to use a pipe wrench on it to break them loose. Air bag comes out easily and bracket replacement a snap. Tested no more unwanted honking.

When I first read your thread title, I seam to remember wiring a friend's brake light switch to his horn as a joke! I'm glad to hear you've fixed the issue.
