Yes I know I'm about to get ripped. But I have been given a boxster 2.5 for next to nothing with a blown motor but it is an auto'tragic'. Since I need to do a 2.5 swap already, how much more intensive would it be to get rid of the slushbox and put in a normal 3pedal set up.

Spendy - New DME (ECU), New Master Cylinder, clutch master cylinder, New Wiring Harness, New Sway Bars (rear), Springs, Cooling system mods, New Pedal Box arrangement, New Instrument Cluster, New Center console(?), New Steering Wheel, probably more that doesn't come to mind.

Of course, that's in addition to the new Box, clutch, slave, shifter, trim plates.

It'd likely cost more than the car's worth. It'd be cheaper to skip the freeby and just go out and buy yourself a 2.5L 5-speed.

On the other hand, don't rule out the Tiptronic S without at least driving one first.

find a totaled 09, fab in the PDK, take pictures then let me know if it kicks ass.

Haha, I was thinking about doing this and putting a vtec motor in my 09 BoxS and dropping the big boy in my '97 base. Then I'd have 2 sleepers!!!! Sick, wicked and nasty

PDK wouldn't mount on the M96, completely different motor/DME unless someone tells me I'm wrong.

been gathering all the information on a tip to 6speed swap for quite some time, but this idea is very! interesting... the new engines still run off 7.8 motoronic so if you are on that, you may be able to... hmmmm

I love a clutch and rowing the gears, I was raised driving standard and anything else is just not normal to me. Well I did enjoy driving an E46 M3 SMG but thats a different breed than whats mated to my box's engine

"To start things off you can see that in order to be able to communicate, read, edit and upload the data on the SIEMENS SDI3 requires a lot of precise and rather nifty gear. The Bosch Motronic ECUs of old were far more cooperative that's for sure. As of now there are no tools available specific to this new ECU. Can it be done? Yes. Will it be laborious? Yes. Will it be expensive? Very. Will you ever get your money out of it? No………………….

As suggested, if you are going to pull the entire drivetrain, find a 3.6 or 3.8 based drivetrain to make it worth your while.

There is coolant mixed with the oil but the car runs so... I dont mind the slush box but would prefer manual. If its not cost effective I wont waste my time

I know you said it's blown, but it might be worth replacing the oil/water heat exchanger, as that could be the place the mixing is taking place on a car that old.

I could definately do that. I havent taken possession if it yet but very shortly it'll be here. I thought motor was toast and was told not to run it for long in that condition and engine should be replaced

Or simply some blown internal freeze plugs. A guy in Texas recently repaired a motor (oil/coolant mix) with this simple failure. The car is in the great white north after all.
