replacing convertible top diy

I need to replace my top and want to do it myself but not sure if it is a good idea or not. I have no idea how to do it but it doesn't look too hard then again I know nothing about. My friend has a shop so I have place and tool to do it or would it be a better idea to take it to an upholstery shop. The only one I found charges 450, if anybody knows where a shop is in atlanta that does it cheaper please let me know
