Help - strange banging/tapping through steering wheel

Hi All,
Great forum ! first post.

I have problem. I am trying to sell my 99 boxster to upgrade to a newer model. It has served me well however before I have had time to ge it all ready to sell I have noticed a terrible intermittant banging/knocking/tapping noise. It comes from the front after a long/bumpy journey. It is really strange as once I park for some time (over night) it stops.

I can feel it coming on as I can feel it through the steering wheel and then when I pull up at some lights they is knocking/banging from the front. It generally comes on after a longish drive (over an hour) and when i have been going down the motorway.....

Begining to drive me mad as I have taken it to my local Porsche specialist and he cant find anything wrong. Don't think it is right selling it with this so if anyone has experienced the same I am all ears ;-)

Many thanks

A broken or debris-laden left- or right-front engine cooling fan, maybe?

Maybe you're only getting the car hot enough to fire up the fans after a long drive... when you pull up at a signal, the fans start up and you hear the noise and feel the vibrations...

The Bentley manual says the fans will come on if you switch on the air conditioning, so you could go start the Boxster, turn on the AC, and see if the racket resumes.

no, as I said I can feel it through the steering wheel and only starts when i have been driving for a while and generally on the motorway. Therefore I dont think it is fans etc.
Also kicks in a bit after a drive and I come to some lights and put the brakes on, it make a clunking noise.
Had it checked out and told it is safe but bit scary when can feel clunk through steering wheel and hear a clunk when I brake, strange.
