Short shift kit in an S

I drove an S last week that had a short shift kit installed. Have to admit, it was sweet. Anyone else have this mod and what is your experience? Cost? Downsides?

I've got the B&M SSK installed in my S. There are no downsides except for the slightlier notchier shifting feel (which to me feels more precise). Instructions that come with it are great and installation took me about 2 hours. Definitely recommended. Purchased from Brandywine Porsche.

$200, best bang for the buck! If you're driving a Porsche of any kind without one you are wasting your time! I mean that!!!

I couldn't agree more. DO IT! I have the B&M and love the bolt-action rifle feel of it.

There's actually 2 versions of B&M's SSK for the Boxster. One is the "in car" version that most people have. It's basically a new shifter with a straight 30% reduction (although it feels like 70% ). The other (and less popular one) goes on the tranny where the cables attach (and is adjustable from 10-30% reduction, I believe).

I would get the in car shifter. This is the samwe unit B&M makes for Porsche as well. It is one of the best mods out there! I paid $200 from Bandywine.

Does it matter if you have a 5 speed or a 6 speed? What I mean is, does B&M make two separate shifters? Or can you use the same one for either application...?

Same shifter for both trans. I just installed mine this weekend and it is great. More notchier but in a good way. 2000 S

How hard was the install? Is it something that a Porsche rookie could do with basic tools and instructions??

The instructions are great. It will take you about two hours. Be sure to mark the threads on the cables.
