I bet you'll find the TTP stuff is pretty expensive. I'm pretty sure that Gemballa uses their turbo system in their bi-turbo cars. Why go from 3.2L to 3.8L? Their 3.4L twin turbo may very well be near the same price but puts out 450 Hp. Would someone really need any more power than that? It sounds like they do it right too - lower compression pistons, head work, and intercooled. If the 3.2L and 3.4L are the same though, just with thicker cylinder sleeves in the 3.2L, then you'd almost be better off just dropping lower compression pistons in the 3.2L, don't overbore it, and crank the boost pressure up to still get 450 Hp or so. Unfortunately their 3.2L twin turbo system still uses stock internals (it's a bolt-on system) and thus would be prone to eventual failure.

Let us know what you find out! I'm going to guess they'll quote you $20K.

Kirk

I think Autofarm over in the UK does big bore kits for our engines.

Thumbs up But, is it worth it?

Hey Mr. 986888,

Here is my answer to your original question - "Have you done it and is it worth it?"

I should qualify these thoughts as my own, and that most individuals have different values and priorities that they spend their hard earned cash on. That being said, I swapped out my 3.2L motor for a 3.6L X51 crate motor fresh from the Porsche factory. I had it professionally installed with a GT3 ecu. While it was in the shop I had the suspension upgraded with Bilstein PSS9s, M030 sways, & Paget Blue brake pads.

So now my Boxster has 355+ hp, and accelerates and handles like a mid engined 996 GT3. It is a phenomenal sportscar, and it thrills the holy bejezzus out of me every time I drive it. I live in remote part of the Rocky Mountains, and as a fun hobby I drive the back roads like the devil is on my tail.

Yeah, I am glad I spent the money on the Boxster! I was a big fan of it in it's stock configuration. In it's econo-supercar configuration (?!?!) I can't get enough of it. I would have a hard time swapping it for any other sportscar.....but that's just me!

Happy Trails,
Ike

Yes, they will bolt in directly, BUT the valve springs must also be upgraded and the cylinder heads should be pulled to do this, and at the same time our sever duty valves applied.

I don't like to add RPM or more aggressive cams to engines with unknown springs and valves, thats recipe for a failure.

Jake, sorry I never got back with you as I am the architect guy with the low mileage red 01 s that sent you an email a while ago.

I know you're being questioned out the wazzo here, but I'm pretty much sold on your service. You definately know your stuff, and you are only 300 miles from me.

With that being said and you knowing my situation as it stands, what would a good budget number be with me bringing my car to you guys and basically providing my engine to you for rebuild from 3.2 to 3.6? Also, how long would it take? Please send me a pm if you don't want to post up.

Any test mule guinea pig hook a brother up discounts would be greatly appreciated...haha

Jon

This is the car that Porsche should build. Think of the markup?????

Sounds wonderful, much continued luck with the car.

PS-Keep the oil clean.

I've never heard of a 3.6L X51 only the 3.8L X51 that comes in the Carrera S and the 996 Turbo X51. What model does the 3.6L X51 come in, the Gt3? I've never seen the Gt3 engine referred to as an X51 before.

I assume he's talking about a 996, not a 997 engine.

The 3.6 X51 was an option on the 996. It is NOT the GT3 motor (The Turbo, GT2 and GT3 still use the old split crankcase 964 block, with water cooled heads). It is just a 3.6 M96 block with different heads, intake runners, and DME tuning.

We'd need the car for about a month once the work was scheduled.. I am in the middle of erecting a new facility so we can turn around the M96 work much faster and do the installs and chassis dyno work on site.

We hope to have the turn around time down to two weeks by around the first of the coming year, lots of that depends on how fast I can finish this new facility... T
