PSE compared to stock exhaust weight
Hello All -
I know that there has been conversation regarding the PSE and the fact that it gives minimal to no power gains (sad, but true) ...
I was wondering, how much does the stock exhaust system weigh? Anyone every try it?
I know, thanks to UPS, that the PSE system + shipping materials = 53.4lbs.
Thanks all ... just curious ...

I think I remember where the stocker exhaust was around 10lbs lighter than the version 1 PSE for pre-august 2002 models.
I doubt 10 pounds can make up for the sound and looks of the PSE. That's one piece of art!!

For the 987 the OEM vs the PSE weight difference is very slight. The PSE might weight slightly more due to the flex tubing for the bypass valves.

The 986 PSE weighs a few pounds more than the stock exhaust. Both of which are very heavy.

Steve, what headers did you go with and did you see any difference in power with them? I want a PSE because I think it looks wonderful on the car and retains OEM quality, but wondered if anyone out there had done this, but installed aftermarket headers with the PSE system?
Also, is the billet linkage worth it in your opinion? I just got the B&M and was wondering if I should splurge for the linkage too?

Just picked up a real deal brand new PSE off ebay last night for my '01 S so I will see about the weight when shipped as well as check the weight of the stock one when I have it installed.
Hope none of you were upset over the bidding as someone else was competing with me on it....
It was kind of hidden in eBay, but it was the real deal. Guy had never installed it on his 986 and traded up to a 987 so everything is still in the packaging.
That is a sweet ass exhaust and cannot wait to get it on the car.
Steve, if you are looking, I would still like to know what headers you are running with your PSE???
Thx, Jon

Auction quit at $1425. - Exhaust is new in the wrapper with all associated hardware also still in unopened boxes.
The Sunset's and Suncoast's (pretty much the lowest guys out there) of the world wanted 1750 plus and then you have to add shipping on top of that, which is also a small fortune. So I saved about 350-400 or more bucks.

Hey, not too shabby...
You decide on headers yet?
Let us know what you end up with, and if you be grinnin' wide when everything's installed!

Well all -
I have some dissapointing news. My initial "UPS" weight of 53.4 lbs with shipping materials was incorrect. Why?
Well, last night, I picked up the package from UPS and all was swell ... until I got home and opened it up to find ... a stock 986 exhaust system ... no bypass valves, no tips ...
Somehow this system made it through Porsche HQ in Atlanta, through the dealer I ordered it from and to my door. Yikes. SO, I called them up and got the situation resolved, the correct system is on the way but I got the dreaded "We need to bring it in from Germany, which means a few weeks wait at best."
I don't know ... just felt the need to share. I have been so excited to get this system on ... and now ... more waiting.
P.S. Steve, I am also interested to know what kind of headers you are running ... let us know if you see this.

That sucks to have to wait so long to be that disappointed when you opened the box.
Have not decided on headers, but there are a couple options I'm looking at.
Any suggestions???
By the way, as far as weight is concerned, the fedex tracking says incoming package is 60lbs....I'm sure it's right around that number.
Hell, I changed the battery the other day and that Moll OEM one is heavy as hell...
I took the Mike Focke route and went with the Autozone Duralast model. It is soooo much lighter. Even sent Mike a follow up email thanking him for his contributions..Very nice fellow. emailed me back almost immediately. Mike, if you are listening in, thanks again man, you're a life saver on my pocket book. Later, Jon

I have the Maxspeed headers. Paid about $500 for them. Good quality and fit. Am still getting the occasional CEL light. Tried a 3/4 inch extender on the O2 sensor. That did not work.

Dealer wants $350 to install it...Honestly, that's probably not that bad considering the wiring and all that goes with it.

Well ... over a month after I posted this thread up ... the correct PSE system has FINALLY come to my door from Germany.
I will update with pictures from the install within a few weeks when it goes in.
