Throatiest, loudest and growliest exhaust

Hey all,

could anybody let me know as to what which exhaust would give my 2003 Boxster 2.7 the throatiest, loudest and growliest sound? I'm not too concerned about it being loud at low revs. The stock exhaust is great but only really growls at 4000rpm. I've looked online and all prices seem pretty fair but there is so much choice... Any ideas?

Thanks

J

maybe because i'm bias, but I like the maxspeed exhaust. definitely louder, even at idle. there is a slight resonance when cruising but nothing too annoying. When paired to an EVO cold air intake (like I have) it's awesome. I love the sound when the intake kicks in around 3000 rpms

a good source is youtube. just search for boxster exhaust and there are many videos to give you an idea of what each sounds like, including the maxspeed exhaust

Go straight

Go straight!!!

If you want loud get straight pipes.
Run mufflerless.

I did it for about 6 months and its very loud. So loud I had to take it off.

Currently I have the Maxspeed muffler and its a good product.
There is also the Pedro exhaust which was my favorite setup.

In the past I have had the straight pipes, pedro, and maxspeed.

There are videos of them all on my youtube page.

you do not want loudest.

i had headers, high flow cats, a straight pipe, and an OEM air filter. and i was LOUD...

i took it in for a dyno, and my friends tell the dynoer its loud, and he laughs, and goes its just a boxster. so then we all laugh. he goes, we've done nascar type cars in here, those are loud. so we put the car on the dyno, long story short, he wound up not putting on ear-protection, but the guy on the throttle did. i plugged my ears with ear plugs and held my hands over my ears.

this was about 20-25' away.

i now have the headers, high flow cats, a dansk, and an evo intake. its much quieter, but its still pretty mean sounding. i want to go with something a lil louder, but nothing like what i had before.

FWIW, a stock Z06 vette will not pass sound at laguna seca which has a limit of 92 dB. So imaging what my car would do with the open pipes. HAHA

I had the Gemballa muffler on the car with headers and high flow cats. The Gemballa muffler lasted one day, you could hear me comming a block away, that would not work where I live.

Supersprint race muffler. Not cheap but the sound is quite amazing, especially coupled to the X51.

I have a Dansk and love the sound of it. If you want loud, I would say that the Dansk is good for your everyday type of driving. If you have the top up there is some resonance/drone noise around the 2000 RPM mark though. Still its a very good overall sound and I have heard/had much worse.

The GHL and the Stebro race muffler are probably two of the loudest out there besides straight pipes of course.

Here's a couple vids of the Stebro race system
