Horn Honks When Breaking Hard...

My 1999 Boxster has recently developed a very sensitive horn...When breaking hard, or even while slowing down on rough roads, the horn will honk. Is anyone aware of a way to adjust the sensitivity of the horn?

yeah, i'm interested in some ideas too... under extreme braking the horn pretty much honks along with the abs pulsating. its only an issue when i'm on a track/ax but i'm curious to know whats going on.

You guys both have the 4-spoke steering wheel, not the M-436 option - 3-spoke Sport Steering Wheel right..??

The issue is that the rubber bushings on the AirBag Retaining Frame (PN#993.347.088.01) have torn and don't allow the AirBag to float as designed. This causes the contacts for the Horn to close and sound the Horn. It especially occurs under braking as the AirBag's momentum causes it to move toward the contacts since it's no longer being held off by the bushings.

There is a DIY on fixing it, but personally, the part is like $40 and I would just replace it. Easy fix.

I was going to pull the air bag off this morning and try and do a temporary fix until I could order the necessary part from my local stealership.
I searched the DIY, but couldn't find any relevant info...Do you have a link?

A cheap and quick fix is to put tape over the two top contact points. Just push the bottom portion of the air bag to honk the horn.

I fixed mine on my own by filling the gaps around the 4 original bushings with black rtv sylicone and letting it set for 45 minutes then installing the frame back in the steering wheel, then wedging some folded paper between the horn pad and steering wheel to elevate the horn pad to my desired height/spacing that i would like, until morning when its time to remove the folded papers.

well u couldve left it how it was so that whenever a car cuts u off and u have to break hard, the horn will go off and it saves ur arms a little work
